Battle of Goscieradow Continued

Turn 3 saw the Austrian reserves starting to pour on to the battlefield. Four regiments came on to support the attack. The Russians won the initiative but chose to hand it to the Austrians. Quick to pitch in Franz threw his troops of the 46th LW into the Russians in the woods, confident that this time he would break them. The 5th Div continued their advance both towards Goscieradow and in closing with the Russian 2nd Regt in the forest in support of 46th LW action.

Third Regt 5th Div moving in the direction of Goscieradow.

1st Regt closing in on the hedged road. You can see the blast marker where the 104mm Howitzer Battalion fired and destroyed a Russian 76mm gun battery.
On the Austrian left the 5th pushed ahead towards Goscieradow, the growing firefight was having greater impact on the Austrians than the Russians, but with the injection of the Austrian 104mm Howitzer battalion there was a tipping of the scale.
Austrian 2nd Regt 5th Div ( in the distance) close in on the right flank of Russian 2nd Regt, meanwhile the 4th Regt 5th Div moves in behind to support 2nd Regt.

Second Regt in tight and closing with the tough Russians. This dog fight was a twist with the Austrians winning the firefight but the Russians winning all the melee.
The 46th LW Division also poured in two regiments of reserves shoring up their stalled attack. 1st and 2nd Regt close with the Russians looking to break the 3rd Russian Regt.
The 1st Regt 46th LW in tight among the trees seeking out the Russian infantry.

2nd Regt 46th LW rush in on the 3rd Regt of Russians. Here is where the Austrians figured they could cause a break in the Russian line.

A second shot showing the depth of the attack of 2nd Regt 46th LW.

3rd and 4th Regts 46th LW commence their advance towards the Russians line.

The 46th run into staunch defenders.
IN the wild melee and firefight in the forest it seems the Austrians had the advantage as they managed to destroy or disorder 6 companies. But in the ensuing melee, the Austrian 1st Regt 46th was decimated and driven off by the sanguine Russian defenders. Hoping he had achieved enough for a regimental morale check the Austrian commander was disappointed to find he needed to cause another 3 companies of Russians to become destroyed before that happened. Mutter under his breath about the high ground, Franz moved to conduct his removal of disorder markers.
Austrian 1st of 46th LW is broken and flees leaving the Russian 2nd Regt on the table, a little the worse for wear but still VERY capable of defending the heights.

Austrian 2nd of 46th LW in tough against the Russian 3rd Regt who are teetering on the brink but holding on.

Russian view of 1st Regt at Goscieradow. The blast marker from the 104's give a stark impression that all is not well.

Another shot from Goscieradow this one looking to the south towards the height and forest.
The turn ended with the Ivan deciding to bring on his reserve Regiment next turn. The Austrian also chose to bring on his Corps reserve artillery battalion of 2 batteries of 15cm howitzers. Things were going to heat up for real now. The Austrians were down a Regiment but they outnumbered the Russians in total 9 regiments to 4, so the lose of 1 regiment was not critical, as long as the telling weight that the Austrians had, took effect soon!
